The Gamewell Volunteer Fire Department
The Gamewell VFD fire district is over 37 square miles in size and from our station to the end of one side of our district is over 10 road miles that we must respond. We are a small rural community in Caldwell County located in Northwestern North Carolina. The following is just a little of information about our fire district that we discovered during our community needs assessment. Our service area consists of some industries with four (4) woodworking plants that are high risk due to no sprinklers and little available water, twenty eight (28) churches, a National Guard Readiness Center, one (1) high school, one (1) middle school, and one (1) elementary school, three (3) 24 hour disability living centers, one (1) disability daycare, and numerous other daycares and large blocks of wildland/urban-interface. We also service a small to mid sized airport that is the only surrounding the airport for two counties and one electric sub-station. However, the majority of our service area is wildland/urban-interface. The Gamewell VFD service area consists of several smaller communities, with most of the areas being low to moderate income.
